Where to start....

Schooling

It's second semester at school. Much work to be done. Luckily for you deviants, you get all the eye candy minus the blood, sweat and tears. Thankfully, as my course progresses, you'll be seeing more digital / scanned colour transparencies as opposed to last semester's reclusive black and white images. Also, with any luck many, many more portaits will come into existance as the models come to hand.

Work

Work (after a very, very slow few weeks) is finally trickling in. I've been given work as a freelance photographer for The Weekly Times a rural paper based in the center of the city. It's a pretty big organisation in Melbourne, part of Rupert Murdoch's News Ltd. Anyway, it's my third assignment coming up, and it's starting to warm up nicely. With any luck, a place in a larger organisation is now forseeable (fingers crossed). Furthermore, a few jobs for the company 'Australian Air Express' and the Moonee Valley City Council have surfaced. Money money money!

Personal

My personal photography is really tied in with my school work at the moment. I'm pushing when possible to lean towards portraiture. I really, REALLY want to get a lot of my friends into the studio.

Links

I've found some links to one of my favorite comedians, Demetri Martin, do take a look.

Honesty

Journal Entry: Mon May 14, 2007, 5:48 AM
  • Mood: Alarmed
  • Listening to: Thirsty Merc - 20 Good Reasons
  • Reading: Al-Jazzera: How Arab TV Challenged the World
  • Eating: Shapes (barbecue)
  • Drinking: Sober for 2 days now. It's terrible, I know.

I'm in need of some honesty.

Upon purchasing my new canon EOS 1V and 16-35mm f2.8 mkII kit, I have a top of the range film slr and top of the range wide angle lens (along with my 70-200mm 2.8 IS) as well as a decent digital setup.

I need some honest feedback on my gallery... and by honest feedback I mean a serious look at all the things I'm still doing wrong or right. I need to know why my shots may lack that 'wow' factor that DD's and the like contain. Obviously, each person's response to a shot will be different.

My set up leaves no technical reason now as to why my shots can fail. I understand that not every shot taken will be stunning (the ratio of rubbish to gold will remain high for quite some time) and I still have a lot to learn, but the way to move forward is to see what went wrong in in my devs and learn from that - and most importantly to not let poor shots become habit.

Reading through my comments on my devs I notice that too many people on deviantart are nice! Even negative leaning comments tend towards softening their stances in fear of... god knows what. Being nice in the real world may earn brownie points, but in this journal I want people to be absolute tossers! Comment on as many or as few as you like, just dump your thoughts here so that others can see.

Thanks deviants, I really appreciate any support on this.
Luka.

New journal style to go with the new subscription.

With any luck, I'll be able to post as many photos from my course here as possible. Chances are that more will come next semester (or more so next year) as it becomes more digitally based.

Anyway, I'm not one for long speeches.

Luka.
